Join us on March 22, 2018 for Capital Fund Law's Real Estate Fund Workshop held in our Los Angeles office on the 25th Floor of Century Plaza Park. The event will also be available via live webinar.
This invitation-only event provides prospective fund managers an opportunity to learn the legal and business aspects of raising capital for a real estate fund in a question-and-answer format. The workshop will also provide introductions and resources for identifying capital sources found to be effective for emerging managers.

John S. Lore | Managing Partner | Capital Fund Law
John Lore is the Managing Partner of Capital Fund Law Group. John has spent his legal career focused on advising emerging fund managers and has answered investment fund legal questions from over one-thousand emerging investment fund managers in nearly every state in the US and throughout the world. He has formed more cryptocurrency funds than nearly any attorney in the world.
Mr. Lore advises investment fund sponsors on all aspects of their business, from capital raising and fund formation to implementation of their business models. His representation of a broad range of asset managers allows him to keep abreast of emerging trends. Prior to founding Capital Fund Law Group, Mr. Lore practiced corporate and securities law at a number of law firms, including in the private securities practice group, resident in the New York City and Moscow offices, of Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, one of the largest international law firms in the world.
Beth-ann Roth | Partner | Capital Fund Law
Beth-ann Roth has extensive experience in securities and investment management law, corporate governance and impact investing. She has represented clients before the SEC and state securities regulators, and has provided legal, operations and compliance guidance to funds, investment advisers, broker-dealers, transfer agents, economic development organizations and their service providers. She has assisted clients with a full range of services, including organization, fund formation, registrations, disclosure documentation, compliance program development and maintenance, SEC inspections, mergers and reorganizations.
Prior to joining Capital Fund Law Group, Ms. Roth served on the staff of the SEC, as Associate General Counsel of a multi-billion dollar Washington, DC area investment fund complex, and as Deputy General Counsel of an international financial development organization. She was a member of the Investment Funds and Investment Companies practice group at Dechert, LLP, one of the world’s largest investment fund practices, and held positions at other AmLaw 100 law firms. Ms. Roth has also been an associate professor at George Washington University Law School, and a registered lobbyist on Capitol Hill.
Vanessa Torres | Associate | Capital Fund Law
Vanessa is an investment fund attorney practicing in the areas of investment fund formation and securities law in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Prior to joining Capital Fund Law Group, Ms. Torres worked in-house on the due diligence team of a real estate securities broker/dealer, where she was involved in selecting the real estate funds to be offered through the broker/dealer sales platform. Ms. Torres received her JD from California Western School of Law and BA from Harvard University. Ms. Torres is a member of the California state bar.
Ken Cruse | Founding Partner & CEO | Alpha Wave Investors
Ken Cruse is CEO, co-founder and a director of Alpha Wave Investors LLC, a private real estate investment platform.
Prior to forming Alpha Wave, Mr. Cruse was Chief Executive Officer and a director of Sunstone Hotel Investors (“Sunstone"), a ~$5 billion total enterprise value publicly traded REIT (NYSE: SHO). Mr. Cruse joined Sunstone April 2005 as Senior Vice President—Asset Management, and was appointed Senior Vice President—Corporate Finance on September 1, 2006, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer on January 1, 2007, Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer on February 18, 2010, President and Chief Financial Officer on December 17, 2010 and as President and Chief Executive Officer and a director on August 5, 2011.
For the eight years prior to joining Sunstone, Mr. Cruse worked in a variety of roles for Host Marriott Corporation, the predecessor of Host Hotels and Resorts, Inc., most recently as Vice President, Corporate Finance.
Mr. Cruse is actively involved in various industry and professional organizations. He is a former member of the board of directors of Morgans Hotel Group (Nasdaq: MHGC). Additionally, Mr. Cruse is a member of GenNext and the Southern California Chapter of Young Presidents Organization. He is also a member of the Dean's Advisory Council for Colorado State University Warner College of Natural Resources. He previously served as a director of the American Hotel & Lodging Association ("AH&LA"), and has been a member of the Executive Committee, Strategic Planning Committee and CEO Council for AH&LA. Mr. Cruse is also a past member of the Real Estate Roundtable.
Mr. Cruse is a member of the board of directors for Miracles for kids, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving children with life-threatening illnesses and the families that care for them. Mr. Cruse holds a B.S. degree from Colorado State University and an M.B.A. degree with honors from Georgetown University.
Mr. Cruse brings a deep knowledge of all aspects of real estate investment, asset management, finance and operations along with proven experience of generating superior investor returns as a CEO of a large, highly-successful public company.
